The History of Aldergate Medical Practice

The Aldergate Medical Practice is one of the oldest practices in Tamworth.

The Practice was originally established by Dr Fausett, who arrived in Tamworth in approximately 1870.

In 1953 two local practices amalgamated to form a group. This occupied premises in Aldergate, Tamworth, from which the Practice subsequently took its name. After about nine years, Tamworth Health Centre was opened and the Practice moved into it in 1969.

In January 1990, the Practice moved to the current site, the site of a former public house, The Mount. This building was purpose built after having demolished the original building on the site. A few years later the Practice acquired the house next door, known as Fraser House, which is rented out to a chiropractor.

The Aldergate Medical Practice was a first wave fund-holding practice. We were part of the Primary Care Collaborative and were the first Practice in the locality to achieve Advanced Access. Another element of this initiative was to audit and improve upon clinical practice for patients with coronary heart disease. The Practice were members of the second wave Medicines Management Collaborative and have continued to implement its philosophy.

The premises provide easy access for all patients, with automated sliding doors, ample parking, lift to 1st floor, specially adapted toilets and allowing full access for wheelchairs.
